I am still young, and I am responsible for what I am building. I do not believe I need to apologise for my age. Nor should it excuse me from responsibility.

My work through EquiFilms was the starting point for building EquiGroup. Today, as its Chairman, I take pride in what I have built, but I do not see it as a finished story. There is still work to do, learning ahead, and decisions I must be ready to make well. It matters more to me that the work earns trust than that my age surprises people.

When I write to people of my generation, I do not want the message to be: look at what I have achieved, so why have you not done the same? I do not find that inspiring. Turning one person's experience into a deadline for someone else's life only adds to the pressure they already face. My hope is different: that my experience leads someone to reconsider a limit they have set for themselves, not their own worth.

The question worth pausing over is not: why am I not there yet? It is: on what basis have I decided that I cannot begin?

Sometimes Experience Is a Prerequisite. Sometimes It Is the Result.

“I am not ready” sounds clear, but it can conceal very different reasons. We may be missing essential knowledge, or an existing commitment may leave no room for a new step. We may also mean that we cannot guarantee the outcome, or that we do not want anyone to see us learning. These are not the same problem, so waiting should not be the automatic answer to all of them.

Some decisions require experience beforehand because their consequences affect others or are difficult to undo. Other steps are themselves how we acquire experience. Learning to make a prototype is not the same as promising to deliver a product. Exploring a field is not the same as committing your whole future to it. Confusing the two can make beginning harder than it needs to be—or make responsibility seem lighter than it is.

That is why I do not find “Am I ready?” a sufficient question. Ready for what, exactly? To research? To practise? To make a limited attempt? Or to take on a commitment someone else will rely on? Each answer calls for a different degree of preparation. We should not demand the experience of the final stage before allowing ourselves to enter the first.

Suppose someone is considering a creative field. They could spend months asking themselves whether they have talent, or produce a small practice piece and show it to someone experienced. That attempt will not settle their future, but it may reveal a more precise question: are they missing a tool, a skill, or a clear understanding of what they want to offer? Once the gap is specific, there is something concrete to learn. The blanket judgement “This is not for me” may close a door before we know what lies behind it.

None of this means that circumstances are merely ideas. Time, resources, health and commitments are real constraints. But it helps to distinguish a constraint from the conclusion we draw from it. “I cannot devote myself to this full-time” may be true. “Therefore, I cannot learn anything in this field” needs a separate examination. We may find a small opening, or discover that postponing is the right decision for now. What matters is reaching that decision through understanding, rather than simply repeating a conclusion we have grown used to.

Do Not Make Beginning a Test of Your Worth

There is a difference between taking our work seriously and asking every attempt to prove who we are. If the work falls short of our expectations, it calls for review; it does not tell us everything about what we might learn later. For that review to be honest, we must allow it to lead us towards changing the idea or leaving it behind, rather than defending it at any cost.

It can begin with one clear task: a prototype, an application of something you have learned, or research into a real need. Define what you want to find out, how much time you can give it, and who could offer candid feedback. Afterwards, ask: what has changed in my understanding? Not: did I look successful? The difference between those questions is the difference between building an ability and creating the impression of one.

This is the standard I want to hold myself to at EquiGroup. A title does not do the work for the person who holds it, and being young does not exempt anyone from the consequences of their decisions. The trust I hope to earn is not based on the impression that I know everything. I want my work to give people a reason to rely on me, and my willingness to examine my own decisions a reason to keep trusting me.

A young person's ambition does not have to lead to a company. It might lie in mastering a profession, pursuing a field of knowledge, or fulfilling a responsibility with dedication. Respecting someone else's chosen path does not oblige us to copy it, and choosing a different one does not make us better than those who take a familiar route. What deserves pride is understanding our choice and doing the work it demands.

I do not want us to replace “You are too young to begin” with “You must achieve something extraordinary while you are young.” Both turn age into a verdict on a person, rather than one part of their circumstances.

As for me, I am still building. What I hope for anyone reading about my experience is not that they race me or resemble me, but that they give their idea a fair chance, without overstating what it can deliver or judging it before testing it. The first step does not have to determine your entire future. It is enough for it to give you a clearer, more honest sense of what you can do next.
